Notes |
- Ivy attended school at Grace Plains and walked across paddocks, a distance of five miles. when she left school she kept house for her brothers Perc and Clem at Alma. Both were unmarried at this time and needed someone to look after the house for them. Times were hard and as it was before the days of lino and cement floors, ivy used to pour milk on the dirt floor to keep it hard.
After Clem married, Ivy returned to her parents at Owen. She went on a holiday to Warnertown to her cousin's (Millie Angel nee Hawkins)place. Millie had to travel to Port Pirie to visit her brother-in-law Albert Angel who was in hospital. Ivy went too and this is how she met her future husband.
Ivy and Albert settle at "Railway View" Warnertown where Albert was born and had been previously farming. They had four children. Ivy decided to have her second child, Dulcie, at home but complications arose and she nearly died due to blood poisoning. Ivy's mother, Sarah, travelled by train to Warnertown to look after the baby while Dulcie was in Hospital. Ivy also gave birth to a stillborn male in approx 1921.
Albert and Ivy Brought "Willow Lodge" and "Prospect Farm" and used to alternate every few months depending on where the work needed to be done. "Willow Lodge" was previously owned by her great Aunt and Uncle Jane and Clem Hawkins. They packed up all their possessions every time and took them with them. They bought "Railway View" again. In 1953 they retired to Afford Road, Port Pirie; a mantle clock was presented to them on this occasion. Not content, Alb and Ivy shifted back to Warnertown to a house behind the present Uniting Church. Later they shifted to the Terrace, Port Pirie.
In 1963 They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Their whole family was present and many friends at the celebration in the Warnertown Institute. Ivy was a keen homemaker, and excellent cook and adept at sewing. She was also a regular church goer and attended the Ladies Guild. Albert was interested in coursing. In 1969 Ivy was ill for some time and suffered until her death just before her 80th Birthday. She died in the Port Pirie Hospital. Albert moved to Adelaide and lived in a house just across the road from his son in Kingston Ave, Edwardstown. Albert lived until he was 89. They are buried not far from John Tucker in the Warnertown Cemetery. Ivy wore spectacles for most of her life and her last wish ws to be buried with them on. (The Tucker Family in Australia, 1992)
