1870	Verlie Lorraine Miller is the second child of Beryl Lorraine McCauley and Frank Richard Miller. Verlie was born 0n 29 September 1942 at Sans Souci, New South Wales, Australia. During the Second World War, her father was away, so she and her mother Beryl, went to live with their Aunty Rita Isaksen at 54 Carroll St Kogarah, New South Wales, Australia. Her mother died on 27th October 1942 and Rita Isaksen looked after Verlie, then 1 month old, until 1945. Verlie is remembered as a beautiful little girl, at the age of 7, she was a flower girl at her Aunty June Isaksen's Wedding to Neville Piggot in 1949. On the 17 December, 1956 at age 14, Verlie had a fall and died. The fall constricted the vessel of the neck causing her death. 1872	Vi was known to many as Babe. She helped in her brother's shop during the war. Both Leo and Vi played for dances: she played the piano and he played the trumpet, clarinet or saxophone for 10 shillings a night during the depression, two or three nights a week. There were 5 in the band. Vi still played at 88 for her own entertainment. She was also a great reader. She was a cheerful and outgoing person with a lively sense of humour and was still making jokes with the hospital staff only moments before she died. They had no children. 1878	Vivian is the twin Brother of Leonard Jack Smith. Rex attended Adelaide High School, where he was very successful in rifle shooting competitions, after a rather poor primary education in the tiny school at Warnertown and worked all his life at the one place. he was chief accountant by the time he retired. he played the violin and piano as a young man. Later he played the trombone in the Unley Symphony Orchestra and competed in Ballarat competitions. He played for the silent movies at the picture theatre on Goodwood Road, Daws Park. He was also a most competent gardener and showed Dahlias for many years when he lived at Forest Gardens. He organized orchestras to play for Sunday School anniversaries in many Protestant churches in the Southern and Western District of Adelaide and conducted rehearsals with them. He was a keen golfer and bowler until he retired from these because of arthritis in his 80s. he was a steward and auditor for the Methodist (Uniting) Church and collected every year for the Bible Society even when he was in his 80s. 1880	W W Campbell & Co was a furniture manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer established by William Webb Campbell (1861-1928) in 1886. Campbell learned the trade from his father, William Branch Campbell (1826-1906) who operated the company, W B Campbell, between about 1875 and 1883 from the 'Royal Furnishing Arcade' at 426 George Street. W B Campbell was a furnishing retailer and manufacturer of furniture and bedding. Upon William Branch?s retirement, the company passed to his sons, William Webb, Alfred Branch, Chas J. and Henry, and became known as Campbell Bros. Campbell Brothers continued in business until around 1890, though W W Campbell & Co established its own shop front first in Castlereagh Street, then George Street and finally from around 1897 at 249 Clarence Street. W W Campbell & Co also seems to have taken over W B Campbell?s factory at Cowper Wharf Woolloomooloo where 60 to 70 workers were employed. By 1902 the furniture factory was located at Miller Street Pyrmont and an advertisement in the Sydney Sands directory stated that W W Campbell & Co were 'manufacturers of furniture, bedding, wire mattresses, and every description of bamboo rush and wicker furniture' and 'importers of British, American, Eastern furniture, bamboo blinds, chairs, lounges &c.' A catalogue from around 1900 (TCQ 749.20491 CAM) illustrates the company?s strong emphasis on cane furniture, with different types referred to either as bamboo, rush, wicker, rattan or pith. By the mid-1920s when W W Campbell & Co issued a Furnishing the home catalogue (TCQ 749.20492 CAM) aimed especially at country residents, the company was selling a wider range of home furnishings including: carpets, linoleum and other floor coverings; mattresses, sheets, blankets and quilts; lamp shades, standard and table lamps; blinds, curtains, curtain rods and fixtures. A later catalogue from around 1939 entitled, Enjoy the comforts of a well furnished home (TCQ 749.20493 CAM), features all of the above furnishings while maintaining the company?s original strengths in cane and other furniture. Another important aspect to Campbell's business was its wholesale trade. Until at least the late 1930s, W W Campbell & Co advertised themselves as 'Wholesale and retail furniture warehousemen'. Their catalogue from around 1925 stated that their sizeable wholesale trade enables them to buy on a large scale and sell at reasonable prices. In addition, the company claimed that their costs were kept to a minimum as they had "no expensive window-shows and heavy shop-rent" like other similar stores in Sydney. In fact, from around 1897 to the 1970s, W W Campbell & Co was located at 249 Clarence Street, behind the main furnishing precinct on George and later Pitt Streets. Even in the late 1930s after a major extension including an additional frontage on Kent Street, the building was still referred to as a warehouse. W W Campbell & Co was taken over by Tallerman and Company Pty Ltd in 1967 but continued trading under the Campbell name until the early 1970s.	Campbell, William Webb (I6529)

1885	Walter rose through various offices to become President of the Mater Painters Association of South Australia. He served the trade for a long term in many offices notably as delegate at interstate trade conferences. In his youth he was a basketballer of note in the Church Football Association until he was 40 holding various offices in that club. He eventually rose to President of that association, a position he held for many years. Later he was President of the controlling body of the Junior Union National Football League (Understood to be the forerunner of the present Amateur League) a position he also held for many years and was its representative on the South Australian National Football League. He was Also a goal umpire and on the tribunal for that league for a number of years and became President of the Umpires Association. He played cricket and then graduated to umpiring for many years with the South Australian Cricket Association. He became President of the South Australian Cricket Umpires Association, a position he also held for many years representing South Australia at umpiring conventions and rule interpretations on an interstate basis. He was active in the Masonic being a past Worshipful Master of MacDonnell Lodge and a past First Principal of the MacDonnell Chapter. He was heavily involved in the Scouting Movement until World War I. In his youth he was a wrestler and finished, after completing an active career in competition circuit wrestling, as an instructor for the old O.B.O (Our Boys Institute in Wakefield Street, now demolished). He also rose to "Boss (leader) in the Kappa Sigma Pi Movement. He was an original founding member of Maylands Church of Christ and was on its committee of management for many years. He was a lay preacher from his early twenties. His big interest was in Sunday School work and he was appointed to the "Flying Squad" which toured the state on weekends lecturing and advising on Sunday School work. After the death of his wife and the maturity of his family, he went into the church of Christ ministry being Pastor of the Kersbrook Church for nine years, sometimes including the Williamstown Church. During this time he was involved in considerable ecumenical activities, often preaching as much in the Methodist Churches nearby and other denominations as much as he did in his own. 1887	Walter William Scott was born at Launceston on 3 Jan 1864 to the Hon. John Scott JP, MLC (1834-1890) and his wife Elizabeth Griffiths (1830-1918) who married in 1854. Walter was educated at the Launceston Church Grammar School and at the Eaglesfield School, Sydney. After his father's death in Jun 1890, Walter became a partner in the firm of Scott and Griffiths, well-known brewers in Launceston. He took a keen interest in music and learnt to play the violin under Professor Kowarzik. He was the leader of the Philharmonic Society, and played classical music at the Musical Union's popular concerts. He also gave his services on many occasions for charitable entertainment in Launceston. Walter married 21 year old Cherry Pennefather on 12 May 1890 by the Rev William Law. They do not appear to have had any children. He died on 24 Aug 1900 at St John Street, Launceston. In her book A Fortune May be Made, Jai Paterson states that "...he bequeathed a pointedly small allowance to his wife...with his violin and the balance of his estate going to another lady!" 1888	Walter worked in the orchard and market garden field from his earliest years and then as gardener for Sir Lloyd Dumas (Managing Director of the Advertiser Newspaper) before commencing on his own property at Hectorville, a market garden, orchard and poultry farm. He was one of the last to leave this field in that district as housing development encroached. He played football for Maylands Football Club., progressing to inter-association level, and was invited to train with Norwood Football Club but the demands on his property and the need to earn his living, prevented further progression. He served on the committee as secretary of the Maylands Club. He also played cricket for Maylands and served on that committee. He was rejected as a volunteer in World War II. He was actively involved in the Masonic Lodge being a past Worshipful Master of Torrens Valley Lodge and held office continuously in various capacities for twelve consecutive years. He was a member of the Prospect Mark Lodge and delivered ritual work only four days before his death. He was a past First Principal of St. Peter's Royal Arch Chapter. He was also a past Most Wise Sovereign of Percy Chapter of Rose Croix of Heredom. He was an active member and worker in church affairs, being a lay preacher for many years, Sunday School teacher, and so on. He researched and wrote the history of the church in his district. 1899	Wes and Nell Tiller went to Karkoo on the West Coast in the mid 1920s and farmed there until 1938. The salt lake on this land is still known as Tiller's Lake. Wes lost this farm during depression years because of a debt to stock agents of 140 pound. Farmers having larger debts were left on the land to work it through but smaller debts were easy to recoup by selling the properties. Wes served in both World War I and II and in the early 50s took up soldier settlement land at Greenways in the South East. Wes and Nell are buried in the Lucindale Cemetery. 1900	Wesley went to Owen with his parents. He attended Pinery School, then studied Dentistry in Adelaide. He enlisted in WWII as a dental surgeon in the Army and served several yars after which he had a practice on North Terrace opposite the War Memorial.
