  • Notes
    • Her outstanding characteristic was her interest in people, neighbors congregated at her house, family, friends and acquaintances alike. As a young girl, she worked for Mr Cheeseman, North Terrace, Adelaide as a dental nurse, her husband had migrated from Wales and had a t first worked on farms around the Kybunga area, accepting also labouring jobs in the building of the Clarke family home called "Clarunga". He enlisted in the Army on 3/9/1914, aged 21 1/2, although he told the army he was 22 1/2. As a member of the 12th Infantry (army no.688) he took part in the landing at Gallipoli. After his discharge he and Daisy married and went to live at Scott's Creek, on an orchard, under a resettlement programme. During the Depression, this property was lost, and the Sullys moved to live at Croydon where Fred gained employment with the Highways Dept. Painting signs for motorists. Daisy was very family-oriented, and brought up her three children in a loving, close=knit Christian home. She always welcomed her nieces and nephews, brothers and sister to stay, often giving them accommodation at very short notice, and often late at night. Daisy also cared for her own mother during her final illness, and was the pivot round which the wider family kept in touch with each other. Her Christian faith was very important to her. She was a member firstly of the Hindmarsh Church of Christ, and on returning from Scott's Creek to Croydon, she joined the Croydon Church of Christ, and was for many years a Sunday School teacher. Nieces and nephew (some of whom boarded with her or school or work) absolutely adored her. Both Fred and Daisy encouraged their sons and grandchildren in sporting activities, like cricket and more often, football, and as both their sons played football for the West Torrens Football Club, they were fanatical supporters.
