    • Robert Neil Burcher is the second child of John and Lola Burcher (n.Barnes). He was born on 9th June 1946 at Haberfield, New South Wales. He was 3 yrs old when his father died.
      He had a good childhood like many kids in the fifties and has good memories of those days. He attended the Dulwich Boys Technical School for three years, doing woodwork, metalwork and tech drawing instead of languages.
      At the age of 16 he became a Christian at Petersham Baptist Church, through the encouragement of his brother Harvey and the ministry of Rev Ivan Kilvert.
      On the completion of his Intermediate Certificate, his first job was a spray painter in a factory at Marrickville New South Wales. That was followed by jobs with GJ Coles at Hurstfville and then two more years in the Commonwealth Department of Works in Chifley Square, Sydney, New South Wales.
      At the age of 20, he was conscripted into the Australian Army for a period of two years. Basic training was at Puckapunyal in Victoria. Coprs traing followed at the School of Signals, Balcombe Victoria. After further equipping and Jungle training he served in Vietnam from late 1967 to late 1968 .
      In 1969, he studied and completed his Higher School Certificate, then in 1970-71 he studied for two years at Sydney Missionary & Bible College at Croydon, New South Wales, In his first year there he married Anne Bolton of Grafton.
      Further training followed at Summer Institute of Linguistics and Tahlee Bible College in preparation for missionary work.
      In October 1974, He and Ann began three and a half years mission service with SIM Mission in the Somali desert in Eastern Ethiopia.
      Another two, four year terms in North Eastern Kenya followed, with the Somali People. There son John was born in late 1982 and accompanied them for their final four years in Kenya.
      Returning to Australia in 1987, he was accepted for Baptist College at Eastwood. he studied there for two years ans was ordained at the end of 1989.
      His first church in Australia was from 1989 -1997 at Lakemba , New South Wales.
      He later served at Warrimoo in the lower Blue Mountains from 1998 to 2000.
      In Early 2001 to 2003 he worked with children and Teenagers with the Presbyterian Social Services.
      In 2004 he was diagnosed with a form of cancer, non Hodgkinson's Lymphoma. After surgery, chemotherapy and finally stem cell transplant he seems to have recovered.
      Anne and Robert have studied, trained and shared missionary & pastoral work together for over 36 years.
      In May 2006, Robert revisited Vietnam with his son John, "It was Great".
